If so, it will stand in a line of Saudi attack on U.S. and other Western interests incited by breaches of the tradition against permanent establishment of non-Muslims on the Arabian Peninsula. It will take us back to the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing.
Here is how one analyst summarized the background to the Khobar attack:

"Domestic opposition to the deployment of US troops on Saudi soil." If that was the message sent by the Saudi shooter at NASP, it was a message directed as much at his own government as ours. As such, it is much more significant than a simple incident of "Islamic terror."
