Question to ask Republicans: do you run red lights? Why not?

Do you drive on the wrong side of the highway? Why not?

Do you tell your kids to cheat at school? Why not?

Do you pull over for ambulances? Why?

(this is assuming they follow basic laws)
We can drive through intersections without fearing for our lives because everyone has agreed what red and green lights mean, and the majority of people agree to follow those laws.
Sure, everyone could simultaneously decide not to, and it would be almost impossible to ticket everyone who ran red lights. But most agree that it’s better overall, for everyone, to follow those laws.
And sure, it’s not a perfect system. Sometimes you’re sitting alone at a red light in the middle of the night. Sometimes a green light going one direction is super long and cross traffic backs up. But overall, it works.
It’s the same with where we find ourselves now. Do we want rule of law, or don’t we? Do we want one set of rules for Donald Trump, and another for the rest of us? I say no to that; I say yes to democracy.
When we learn traffic laws, are you told “only x party follows this law”? No, of course not. We understand that we follow the laws for the betterment of our communities. Without those laws—really, an intangible shared concept—our quality of life would be significantly worse.
This isn’t about party any more than traffic laws are. It’s about what kind of world we want for ourselves, our kids, and our grandkids.
