Trump's tacit threat to fire his FBI director should be seen as a very clear declaration that his efforts to manipulate the levers of government for corrupt purposes will continue unhecked.

That in itself argues for a broader impeachment.

That's just false.

Trump's core claim *for years* has been that the Russia investigation was *illegitimate* and a *coup* against him.

Let's be clear: McConnell's plan for a sham trial with no witnesses really means:

We’ve already decided in advance that the full facts will not get us to turn on Trump no matter how damning they are, so why should we listen to them at all?

It shows that Republicans know they can't risk testimony from witnesses called by Democrats, because that would heighten the *political* price of acquitting him:

1) The full William Barr interview with NBC is now online, and it's much worse than we thought.

There's a very serious deception at the core of Barr's effort to validate Trump's lies that is more dangerous than it first appears.

2) Barr claims the justification for the FBI's launch of an investigation into Russian electoral sabotage was "flimsy." He attacks the IG's conclusion to the contrary.

But he downplays an absolutely central aspect of the IG's conclusion to do so.

3) Barr portrays the decision as *only* motivated by "flimsy" evidence of Trump collusion.

But IG emphatically recounts that the FBI was *already* aware of extensive Russian efforts to sabotage the election at the time.
