I love that Arabic allows each Arabic-speaking people to have their own native dialect (or dialects), without losing the cross-regional connection of Standard Arabic / Fus7a. It's actually a great blessing. We are allowed two identities - who said we have to have only one?
Every Arabic speaking people should be proud of their local dialect, it represents layers upon layers of their history, it expresses their heart and soul. There's nothing wrong with being both proud of your local context and aware of your regional/wider identity.
And I didn't really appreciate this until I moved to Europe, where I saw how the multitude of languages impedes the creation of a consolidated, wider public sphere. But that's a topic for another conversation.

The system needs more shocks for people realize at a personal level the need for radical change. Too many are still thinking we can wait out the clock and it'll automatically roll back to 2016, not realizing that (a) there's no going back; (b) 2016 and before were also shit.
History isn't linear. The system needs to be smashed into a thousand bits so that people stop trying to resuscitate a terrible system and start pouring their energy, creativity, and resources towards building a new, more just, more egalitarian, more inclusive system.
I say that knowing full well that it's us - the people living outside the so called "liberal world order" - who stand to hurt the most as that order is smashed and destroyed. The irony is that we were never part of the pax, it was built upon our blood and bones, yet we suffer.

There's this Arabic word: "Fitra". It refers to things that are innate or natural to human nature. What is of the "fitra" requires no system, strategy or belief. It does not require us to think about it, and its essence doesn't exist in the realm of thought at all.
We do not create such things, we only reconnect with them. It requires commitment, and it proceeds not by adding but by taking away; not by lifting but by letting go.
Among those things that are natural to us are love, kindness, awareness, and acceptance. Acceptance is submitting to the truth; it is, exactly literally, "Islam".
