This was the lightest of bants at people who love dogs. I love dogs too. Any decent person should.
I do prefer the laid-back affection of cats as opposed to the .. intrusive .. affection of dogs, but that has to do with my personality.

Dogs, cats, and horses are proof that humans are not totally depraved, fallen though we may be, since God allowed us to make friends with these three species, and not just servants like livestock.
This brings certain responsibilities. Eating cats or dogs or horses is wrong, on the basis of the moral principle that eating one’s friends is a betrayal of that friendship.
As far as I know, I’m the only philosopher who maintains that argument against eating those species.
