1/ Impeach Trump. Save America. nyti.ms/35bxxNY by Thomas Friedman. He gets some things right. Like the illegitimacy of future American presidents. 
2/ And while he correctly notes that Putin is the beneficiary, he does not explain or understand *why* Putin has this sway over the GOP. Partly, it is Trump.
3/ But, the biggest part is that Putin employed the FSB, the GRU, the ROC, & oligarchs to convince conservative evangelicals & conservative GOPers that he shared their obsession in opposing gay marriage & sodomy. And, he shared their obsession with controlling womens'
4/ bodies by restricting or ending abortions. That's it. Putin & Dugin have no real ideology or philosophy they can sell in America. So, they mirror-imaged conservative evangelicals and created an image that Putin was the savior of orthodox Christianity and traditional values.
5/ And so, at the end of the day, McConnell, Rand Paul, Graham, Cruz, and the entire GOP are willing to sell out America because they hate gay sex and gay marriage more than they love the Constitution and the Republic. Putin leveraged the evangelical Christian obsession with
6/ gay marriage and sodomy into a winning hand. That the GOPers are afraid of Trump, okay, if that explanation helps. But, look at what John Fea calls the "Court Evangelicals." A good many of them are with or support the World Congress of Families. They believe Trump is on a
7/ mission from God. Before Trump, Franklin Graham openly supported Putin as being on a mission from God. And what brings it together is not ideology, for Putin has no ideology. It is the evangelical Christian obsession with stopping gay marriage, sodomy, and abortion. That is
8/ why the GOP is going to sell out America. The strongest predictor of voting for Trump is Christian Nationalism. The base of the GOP is evangelical, conservative Christians believing in a literally true, infallible bible.
