After Bill Taylor testified, GOP sources on the Hill said his words were "reverberating" in the GOP and could be a game-changer on impeachment. Now that report seems like a cruel joke. The upshot: America needed to care about Trump's crimes to swing the GOP; not enough of us did.
I'm glad Trump will be impeached. But one of the lasting shames from this period in history will be that the Democrats put on the strongest case of national security-threatening bribery America has ever seen, and it moved *no one* because this was about *politics* for *everyone*.
By "everyone" I of course don't mean the millions of us who believe in rule of law. But we must be honest and say that much of the media approached this as a politics story, nearly all in the GOP did, and even some percentage of Democrats just want Trump gone because he's an "R."
What this *really* was was a test of everyone's law-and-order bona fides. It's hilarious that millions of Americans watched "Law & Order" for years and then when they had to a chance to recognize a massive crime and attempts to bring someone to justice for it, they *didn't care*.
This is, and it should've been shouted from the rooftops on every news network and news outlet in America for months, a *slam-dunk case* of criminal activity and impeachable constitutional violations. This is *not* a close case. And it is one of the most *serious* in our history.
Despite that, all the talk on TV was about whether the Republicans would be able to convince some Democrats to sign onto their *totally lawless position* on these crimes. That no Republican from the "law-and-order" party would actually *stand up* for law and order was *presumed*.
A whole generation is considering right now whether to turn away from politics permanently, a decision which, if made, will leave the field even more open to rapacious scoundrels. Again, this *wasn't* a close call. We should've had 70% of America supporting impeachment. At least.
I firmly believe every GOP member of the House is a coward who would've at least considered voting for impeachment if they thought a significant percentage of Americans actually gave a sh*t about "law and order." Their vote for Trump is a vote of *contempt* for the United States.
