While I am institutionally disinclined to find anything of the manichean election strategies to my liking, it deserves to be said that some of the ideas for reconstructing government of Cummings sound far more interesting. Two spot ons - two big concerns (thread)
Positives: an emphasis on the North. Hyper-centralisation is a tragedy that comes with many problems. Also: abolishing DExEU and the ensuing institutionalisation of competition between a UK-EU FTA and a UK-US FTA.
Concerns: revolutionary change in government is a problem. Ways to provide for continuity will need to be found. And the largest concern: checks and balances. Any wise approach will have to ensure checks and balances. Power is tempting, withstanding that temptation tough.

Looking forward to the new FTAs after reading the continuity FTAs. I hope the trade bill is a product of wisdom, acknowledging that Parliament should play a vital role for FTAs, scrutinising the mandate and working in close cooperation with DIT and @trussliz
@trussliz Building broad parliamentary consensus for FTAs is not a weakness, but a condition for a sustainable UK trade policy.
@trussliz I should maybe add that parliamentary input has two further advantages: it complements regional and stakeholder consultation through the role of MPs. This can only work if Parliament is given a role.

Yes, I understand that deadlines focus minds. But we are wasting our times with symbolism if we formulate laws to strengthen deadlines when everyone knows that those laws can be overturned easily. What should be in the deal besides 0 tariffs and corresponding LPF?

@anandMenon1 @stefanauer_hku First of all: the reason the May deal did not get through, substantively, was Northern Ireland. That was the one critical point, so we can focus on that.
@anandMenon1 @stefanauer_hku NI had rarely been discussed in the referendum, which had focused on the binary in or out. Thus, a lack of thinking on NI is the first focal point for how we got here. Traditional ways how borders work dictate one of three possibilities: Ireland, Sea, UK in EU regulatory space
