Ten ways BBC Scotland could improve.
There are ten very simple changes BBC Scotland could make to its political output [broadcast and online] that would improve that output. The changes aren't difficult. Indeed most should not have to be pointed out to them.
The advert appears as one of the top three news articles. Front pages are frequently politically motivated and reflect the constitutional leanings of the newspaper. Pro-Union titles dominate. It is bias by proxy.
Presenters provide a summary of a front page. The front page is frequently politically motivated and reflects the constitutional leanings of the newspaper. Pro-Union titles dominate. It is bias by proxy.
Political parties should *not* be allowed to make claims that are *known* to be false. Mistakes are made in the heat of debate and thus allowances should be made. However *repeated* falsehoods need to be corrected immediately.
Both sides should have equal representation whenever the constitution is discussed. No side should *ever* have an advantage.
It is not acceptable for pundits to be presented as impartial when they are not. Only those guests willing to reveal their political leanings should be invited on. That way debate balance can be guaranteed. Fakers should be barred.
Vox pops should *never* be used for serious political issues.
Using guests pundits from the same tiny elite pool should cease. The pool of possible guest pundits should be bigger to give a greater variety of views. A list of guests who have appeared, and at what cost, should be published weekly.
A no-brainer really. Any errors need to be quickly acknowledged on the programme which broadcast them, preferably at the same time as the erroneous broadcast.
Any and all claims from parties or politicians should be thoroughly checked before they are broadcast. The Jenny Marra fake £300,000 payout claim should never have seen the light of day until checked.
UK BBC doesn't politicise NHS stories. BBC Scotland shouldn't either.
