I remember what I was doing at this time in 1999: preparing for the holidays and the Millennium. BUT, I can’t for the life of me remember what I was doing in 2009 at this time. Do you?
I can see 1999 Me about to say yes and then no and then yes to the boyfriend who would become my shithead ex-husband. Don’t do it, Mona!

But 2009 Me? Where were you, Mona? Hmmm...
1999 Me lived in Cairo & was visiting NYC for Xmas & Millennium. It was my 1st visit since my family 1st went to NYC (& US) in 1982. And holy fuck! I realized I would love that city more than I would ever love any man or woman.Soon to be ex-husband understood & was jealous of NYC
1st decade of Millenium got off to a fucking miserable start - I married the man and moved from Cairo to Seattle and almost lost my mind.

2nd decade of this Millennium got off to a much better start because I left him in 2002 and moved to be with my big love, NYC.

Yalla 2020!
Thank you, all sharing their 2009 selves! ❤️✊🏽💜
I am so moved by the memories you’re all sharing of 1999 and 2009 memories!

Thank you ❤️✊🏽💜
Love and solidarity with all who shared memories of their lives as 1999 and 2009 were drawing to a close. Thank you! It’s so moving reading about struggles, victories, pain, joy, hopes, and dreams. May 2020 bring joy and freedom ❤️✊🏽💜
