Why not lead with this, @JoshNBCNews? "... review of his public comments show he’s relying almost entirely on assertions by Ukrainians whose credibility is questionable at best. In some cases, the allegations have already been thoroughly debunked." Long setup to get there!
Maybe I'm overly sensitive but we live in a world where the notification or title is all most people read. I could be forgiven for thinking maybe Giuliani has something going if I never read any further- which most people simply do not.
I will follow this thread by adding @Olivianuzzi's discussion with @RudyGiuliani. That any serious need organization treats anything he says as even potentially legitimate is a mystery to me. nymag.com/intelligencer/…

1/ Sometimes I hear folks say optimistically that we will get through the worst of the Republican party's bigoted and anti-democratic instincts once the generation in power dies off. But I don't see that happening. Here is why, with reference to The Wire.
2/ The current Republican oligarchy is like Avon Barksdale's crew. Lawless, of course, but organized, professional, and entrenched. Modes of operating established over time.
3/ But what is coming behind it appears to be not less but more extreme- not just lawless but completely unprincipled, with an underlying belief in only raw strength and lethality. No interest in working in the system, but rather destroying it.

We have entered a new phase in the decline of the @GOP. Having lost intellectually and demographically, they must now resort to breaking norms, rules, and laws- indeed to supporting a President who does all three. Next, they will embrace the final tool available: violence.
Somewhere in America, a young man who believes the GOP rhetoric- the disinformation and disingenuous defense of Donald Trump offered in today's proceedings- was just radicalized. We cannot know what his next act will be, but it is certain he will attempt it.
Exactly right. Dangerous, dangerous times.

re. AI-facilitated disinformation: I wrote about how automated, self-learning bots could maximize the harm of disinformation by determining in real-time who is most vulnerable to which type(s) of disinformation — and then using that info to target people.

And that’s just one specific scenario addressing one mechanism of automated disinformation. There’s a whole world out there involving everything from AI-generated faces and “deepfake text”, to automated “news-writing”, trend manipulation and more.
Automated disinformation is most effective when combined with human actors, as seen in the ongoing disinformation campaign targeting antifascists, which involves a mix of automated/human-run accounts, plus hashtag/keyword manipulation to game algorithms.

I ran into a rabid Brexiter on my evening walk today. Talked about how happy he was now that UK was leaving the EU. I tried to keep my cool and think I managed to get in a few hard facts, like it’s not the EU forcing a hard border in Ireland #Disinformation #Brexit
The guy happens to be an (unfollowed but not unfriended) FB friend, and he offered me a ride home and said “Please don’t unfriend me.”
He’s decent enough, but very ill informed. I also told him that I’ve never been to a country more ill informed about EU than the UK.
I told him that there had been a massive anti EU disinformation campaign in the UK since the early 1990ies. The lies were so many the EU found it necessary to launch a separate page to debunk it. It has arond 600 entries, I sad.

Bernie v. Hillary, Benghazi & the "email scandal" were perfect targets. There was already tension & division on those topics, so they were easy to exploit. 2
Russia also targeted #peopleofcolor (specifically black voters) to sow distrust of Hillary & the political process, which helped Trump's campaign. 3
