How many know of Zubair Mankada's exclusivist Islamic commune for Muslims to live "the closest way possible to what was lived in 7th c"? authors do a sleight of hand sanitizing history of Islam in Kerala, but inadvertently expose a bigger issue as follows

as per authors "the search for a life guided by “pure Islam”" leads to a "zeal" not satisfied within the constraints put on Keralite clerics who "eschew violent agitation in any form". If Islam is being taught by same clerics, why is its ideals not satisfied by non-violence?
the persistent paradox of a "peaceful" preaching of Islam not satisfactory for the Islamic mind seeking perfection perhaps can simply be explained as the ideology having built-in-elements that must be taught yet can't be satisfied without exercise of hegemony/dominance/violence.

@DataReveals u wdnt want me to start quoting Gandhi's blatant attempts at whitewashing Islam& reassuring Hindus on Islamic behaviour on Hindus. What u quote is superb deception too: he is carefully pretending that its "Muslim" the person to blame - not Islam which requires him to be a bully.
@DataReveals Gandhi almost never deconstructs Islam in its proepr historical record and trajectory - he never exposes and criticizes the ideology itself. Another sneaky side in the very quote u hv is "Hindus r cowards", if its person he is talking of - plenty Hindu bravery was before him.
@DataReveals the very quote shows how much he looked down upon, or wanted - the Hindu to be looked down upon. Only faced with fait accompli jihadi success at end, he blamed the very ppl he had emascualted thru one-way tolerance - for not choosing the option to return violence with violence.

I just see too many problems from historical records against the claim that it was economic-exploitation of "Kashmiri Muslims" by Gulab Singh's dynasty & "hindus" that led to "socialist/non-communal/pure-independence" movement. The history simply doesnt show it. Let see briefly:
Historical records r very clear on the economic conditions worsening throughout Mughal occupation, with both foreign travelers and domestic sources confirming the general decline of agrarian economy& ruinous exploitation of peasants as part of wider Mughal rule in India.
Abul Fazl indicates that even though formally 1/3 (of produce) was the ancient tax, it had risen to 2/3 or more in the late sultanate/early mughal phase - "reduced" to 1/2. But on ground other evidence of the 2/3 or even more, to revenue demand in excess of production exists.

@AKAPagodo @upword_ @jsaideepak pity I have to see someone's indignation at his idol being correctly pointed out as "linked" to the entire spectrum of Kashmiri separatist movement as being driven by jihad. Not just Sheikh, but also Iqbal was mentioned. Neither had any space for Kashmir's Hindu roots& culture.
@AKAPagodo @upword_ @jsaideepak I thought this tweeple had "unfollowed" me, but takes care to mention my full handle. Every Kashmiri separatist used Islam, Islamic phraseology, Islamist language, and the common framework of jihadi Islam's persistent demand that Muslims shdnt tolerate "non-muslim rule".
@AKAPagodo @upword_ @jsaideepak what happened in 1931, in 1948, in 65-66, in 80's, in 90's showed that Sikandar Bustikan was the driving hidden paradigm in everyone screeching abt Kashmiri "independence" - and the target was the "Hindus": Kashmiri separatism was abt getting rid of Hindus. always.

2/ Pahlavi (otherwise known as #Zoroastrian Middle #Persian) was the language of the #Sassanian kings and the #Zoroastrian clergy. It remained a prestige language in #Iran even after the Islamic conquest
3/ What makes the coin so unique is that it translates the shahada into an essentially #Zoroastrian idiom: “yazd-ēw bē ōy any yazd nēst mahmat paygāmbar ī yazd” (There is one God, without any other, #Muhammad is the #Prophet of God)

Let us understand one scenario- there’s one Muslim nation working under Sharia law! Everything should be peaceful there- right? But no there’s intolerance Sunnis can’t bear Shiyas- Ahmediyas- Voras- Arabs consider themselves race above the other Muslims as they r a purée breed
than the rest!
So there is unrest- the so called minority or lower race Muslims r forced to flee the land which is their own nation! Inspite of there being 53 pure Islamic countries on the planet working according to their pure Islamic principles,
none of these countries offer a refuge to these fleeing Muslims so they turn to Europe, India and other Asian countries with a plea to give them refuge! Or they try and illegally infiltrate into the borders of flourished nations trying to make space for themselves!

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
