Other exciting news from WIPAC experiments in 2019:

In February, a CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array) prototype telescope recorded first light and first particle showers less than a week after its inauguration on January 17, 2019. 📡

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory (@uw_icecube) announced funding for the IceCube Upgrade, an extension of the South Pole neutrino detector that began preparations this year. 🧊

The CHIPS experiment (CHerenkov Detectors in Mine Pits) was deployed in a northern Minnesota lake in November. It will run tests all winter and be completed in spring/summer 2020.

We also welcomed over 800 cosmic-ray researchers from around the world to Madison for the 36th International Cosmic Ray Conference! WIPAC researchers had nearly 30 contributions at #ICRC2019. Our own Vanessa Lopez-Barquero won a poster award!
