Pulling out of an accord that had rolled back and contained Iran's nuclear program may be the worst blunder of Trump's presidency. There is no "better deal." Iran has more influence, not less. Anti-US sentiment growing. Everything has gotten worse since the US left the deal.

Notice that in all the crude attacks on me for this tweet, there is not one that argues that Trump reneging on the Iran anti-nuclear deal has made things better. Or that his policy is working in any way. Just insults and “alternative facts.”

What does it mean that Iran has techinically breeched one of the limits of the historic anti-nuclear deal? It is not a sprint to a bomb. They are a long way away. This is more message than threat. Let me explain with just a few facts. 1/
Iran had over 10,000kg of low-enriched uranium gas (LEU) before the agreement. They were required to ship 98% of it out of the country. They were left with a token amount of 300kg at 3.5% purity. 2/
It takes about 1,050kg of LEU to make the core of one bomb. They would have to further enrich it in centrifuges until they had about 25kg of highly-enriched uranium (HEU) at about 90% purity. Then they could fashion that into metal and shape it into a bomb core. 3/

The Iran anti-nuclear accord was not "terrible," not the "worst deal ever," not flawed. It stopped a war, stopped an Iranian bomb. Its major failing was that there are no photos of the massive dismantlement of Iran's former nuclear program. American don't realize what we got. 1/
• Iran had 19,000 centrifuges; they dismantles 13,000 of them
• Iran had 10,000kg of LEU gas; they shipped 98% out of the country
• Iran was building a reactor that could make Plutonium; they filled its core with concrete

• Iran was weeks away from making a core of a bomb; now it’s at least a year.
• Iran had a secret program; now it's under the strictest inspection regime on the planet.
• Most limitations last 15-25 years; inspections and pledge to never build nuclear weapons last forever.

Iran (un() Deal Day THREAD: 1) @realDonaldTrump hasn't been consistent on a lot, but he has been consistent on the Iran Deal. He's been against it for years and called it a "disaster" and "insane" on the campaign. So this time he's not flip flopping.
2) Pulling out of the deal may have been on faulty analysis of what we could achieve vis-a-vis a better deal. Wonder what @CIA @ODNIgov assessed was or was not achievable and if @POTUS thought he knew better
3) Also wondering whether this approach was based on any analysis that NO deal is better than THIS deal or was this an @WhiteHouse negotiating tactic that misfired
