At the direction of the Commander in Chief @POTUS, I have authorized the deployment of an infantry battalion from the Immediate Response Force (IRF) of the @82ndABNDiv to the @CENTCOM area of operations in response to recent events in Iraq.
Approximately 750 #Soldiers will deploy to the region immediately & additional forces from the IRF are prepared to deploy over the next several days. This deployment is an appropriate and precautionary action taken in response to increased threat levels against U.S. personnel...
...and facilities, such as we witnessed in Baghdad today. The United States will protect our people and interests anywhere they are found around the world.

Despite the opposition & repeated warnings from the U.S. & international community, Turkish President Erdogan ordered a unilateral invasion of northern Syria that has resulted in widespread casualties, refugees, destruction, insecurity & a growing threat to U.S. military forces.
Due to Turkey's irresponsible actions, the risk to US forces in NE Syria has reached an unacceptable level. We are also at risk of being engulfed in a broader conflict. Therefore at @POTUS' direction DoD is executing a deliberate withdrawal of US military personnel from NE Syria.
Turkey's unilateral action was unnecessary and impulsive. President Erdogan bears full responsibility for its consequences, to include a potential ISIS resurgence, possible war crimes, and a growing humanitarian crisis.

First and foremost, always good to see @MiekeEoyang giving her thoughts on this stuff. Mieke and I don't agree on everything, but if you aren't listening to her, even when you disagree with her, you're doing Dem foreign policy wrong. 2/
Hard to argue with Prof. Schulman that foreign policy experience is hardly decisive in presidential elections, but there's ample evidence that foreign policy positions play an important role in voter's decisions. 3/

The announcement by the #POTUS that he is replacing National Security Advisor LTG H R #McMaster with #Ambassador #JohnBolton is great news. This is an over due change that I wish Mr #Trump had made long ago.
John #Bolton is probably the most experienced and capable #diplomat in America today. He will be coming in at a critical time when the #President needs solid advice on dealing with #Iran, #NorthKorea, #Russia, #ISIS, and an array of other threats.
As for LTG #McMaster, I thank him for his service and wish him the best in the future. That said, there were issues, as I see them, regarding the #General’s tenure.
