The net number of people coming into the U.S. from abroad has slowed dramatically. Probable causes include Trump's policies and America's general attitude of unwelcoming-ness under Trump.

Republicans are getting the immigration "pause" they wanted.

Even if we elect a Democrat, I think much of this immigration isn't coming back soon. Yes, a Democrat would let in more refugees and asylum-seekers from Central America. But the degradation of America's attractiveness as an immigrant destination will take decades to go away.
It's still early days, and the influx of immigrants is still positive (200k net in 2018). But it's looking more likely that the battle for higher immigration will be lost. At great cost to our country's power, economy, international image, and character.

I believe that a HUGE unexploited opportunity in TV is for shows to explicitly announce that they'll write plot elements according to the consensus wishes of fans. For example, letting shippers determine which way a love triangle will go. Engagement would be INSANE.
PUT SHIPPERS IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING
You could also have a voting system and allow people to buy extra votes. The strategic interactions would be INSANE. Downside is the fans would go broke and sue.

You have a TON of idiosyncratic needs/wants.

You may not feel this way now—

"I just need this little thing...and that little thing...and this other thing. It's pretty simple, really!"

Every one of those molehills is, in fact, a mountain.

1/ The cult of Elon is a subdivision of the ecowarrior movement that is pushing to eliminate all fossil fuels (and nukes) by 2030. That would mean keeping poor people poor while the connected grow fat on subsidies for their $tsla EVs and Powerwalls.
2/ Where the Progressive-Greens are influential (California, Germany) the cost of energy has doubled (or more) from what a free market mix would have provided, reliable paid-for nuclear is being shut down, and the costliest forms installed earlier are decaying.
3/ Wind turbines are especially costly, mechanical collectors of a low-density source which can never compete on cost with other forms. Already windmill farms installed early in the movement are largely abandoned. Photovoltaic is already maxed out in California at 10%.

I think we will look back at 2017 and see it as the year the #WordPress project started to fracture. As much as the community desperately wants to see WordPress as an enterprise CMS, projects like #Gutenberg show it is anything but.
Gutenberg is a phenomenal piece of software and everyone involved in it should be proud of what they have achieved. But we also shouldn't be afraid to call it what it is. It's a move toward WordPress being a site builder.
It's a shift away from fellow PHP-based CMSs like @CraftCMS, #EE, @statamic, @getgrav, @grabaperch, @drupal and the countless other custom-field based CMSs out there. It's a move away from one of the key features of a real enterprise ready CMS. Native structured content.
