The net number of people coming into the U.S. from abroad has slowed dramatically. Probable causes include Trump's policies and America's general attitude of unwelcoming-ness under Trump.

Republicans are getting the immigration "pause" they wanted.

Even if we elect a Democrat, I think much of this immigration isn't coming back soon. Yes, a Democrat would let in more refugees and asylum-seekers from Central America. But the degradation of America's attractiveness as an immigrant destination will take decades to go away.
It's still early days, and the influx of immigrants is still positive (200k net in 2018). But it's looking more likely that the battle for higher immigration will be lost. At great cost to our country's power, economy, international image, and character.
