tl;dr: this isn't world war III!

It is, however, a thing that will:

- likely trigger more, not fewer, attacks on US personnel
- increase the tit-for-tat btwn US and Iran
- result in cyberattacks, attacks on oil lanes, etc
- push Iraq closer to Iran
- see blowback agains Israel
We don't have the same sort of alliance system in place as 100 years ago, so it's not like Russia's going to want to get into a shooting war over this.

But...my guess is it'll def be fine looking the other way for a bit as Iran gets some revenge
Having a v fun time of figuring what “no US boots on the ground” scenario winds up worse over time:

- Iranian retaliatory attacks on lead to US drone strikes on Iranian soil

- Iran declares that no tankers that sell oil to US can pass Strait of Hormuz, KSA attacks w/ US backing

Among them: the full contents of Rudy’s wild dossier of “evidence” State turned over to Congress and confirmation that Pompeo called Rudy twice in late March

Almost all of this was already in the record: Amb. David Hale talked about the calls between Pompeo and Giuliani on Wednesday evening and in his deposition; most if not all of Rudy’s folder has been reported out

Still good to see all the source documents though
So here’s the timeline:

On March 24, Marie Yovanovitch writes to David Hale and lays out the attacks against her

He calls and she explains she believes Rudy is behind it

March 25, Hale briefs Pompeo, who determines no statement of support will be given yet

Reading through the David Hale testimony now, as one does when this is now their life, and apparently Sec. Pompeo called Sean Hannity and told him to produce evidence of the stuff he was saying about Amb. Marie Yovanovitch
Before that Amb. Hale said when he first heard about Giuliani's alleged involvement in the smear campaign against Yovanovtich, he apparently was dubious that Rudy would do such a thing
Hale also got an email from Amb. Yovanovitch in late March where she laid out wtf was happening with this smear campaign against her

Hale apparently thought the email was too speculative about who was behind it

Holy cow! Senior militia leaders killed in American strikes in Iraq, and could include Iran’s Qassem Soleimani or one of his top aides from Iraq. Beyond insane.
So far confirmed — the Pentagon is saying two senior operatives “linked to Iran” were targeted.

Iraqi TV claims that Qassem Sulaimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed.

If true, this is no doubt the most significant/consequential killing probably in a decade.
Whoa! Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi (iranian-backed popular mobilization forces) is reportedly confirming that its deputy and Qassem Sulaimani have been indeed killed in American strikes.
