Haley reveals herself once again to be nothing more than an extremist hack & just one more voice shouting to the world that Trump alone is not the problem, he is not the future of the problem and that merely defeating him is not nearly adequate to saving the country.
Trump is not the best of the GOP, the most powerful of the GOP, the richest of the GOP, the most influential of the GOP, nor is he the future of the GOP. He was used by them as he has been used by Putin, to advance an agenda...an agenda that has been evolving for 40 years.
Thinking that removing Trump is enough is magical thinking. It ignores the evidence of changes being made since Reagan that have undercut our democracy, elevated an oligarchy, suppressed minorities & women & effectively killed the American dream for the majority of our citizens.
Is it essential to remove this unfit & dangerous president? Yes? Is it a material step toward reversing the corruption of our campaign finance system, the rewriting of tax & regulatory law to benefit the few,the gutting of our environment, and the undermining of the rule of law?
Probably not. That will require massive changes in the Congress and then a Congress with the guts and vision to implement real reforms in campaign finance, tax law, regulations, and programs to restore economic opportunity and security for average Americans.
It is easier to run against a man--particularly one as vile and odious as Trump. It is easy to suggest he's everything that's wrong with the GOP, that he changed it. But the facts say different. And they show that the McConnells and Barrs were around long before Trump.
And they and their successors will be around long after. It is fine to focus on winning a battle...if it is part of a strategy and comes with the will and vision and leadership necessary to win the war. The Democratic Party is our only hope in that regard. Are they there yet?
The jury is out and their are worrisome signs that they are unwilling to define the larger problem for what it is because it sounds too daunting. First things first they say...and then they propose candidates and approaches who are unlikely to get us to where we need to go.
Open your eyes. Accept the gravity and scope of the challenge for what it is. Or we will be defeated not by Trump but by the larger forces who are for the moment using his face as their own.
