* Iran's foreign minister says that today's face-saving attack "concluded" its response to the killing of Soleimani.

* Assuming this is truthful, it's a big opportunity for an off-ramp from further escalation.

* Trump would be crazy not to take it. Which isn't to say he will...
This is the first time in my life I find myself rooting for Donald Trump to tweet stupid s*%t...

...but here's to hoping that Trump wakes up tomorrow morning, tweets some lame jokes about how weak Iran's response turned out to be, and goes off to golf for the rest of the week.

* Airport observations.

** Since I don't have kids, I do feel bad judging people for their parenting skills (even if it very much looks like they are regularly treating their children in an inappropriate way.)

With the support of the far-right, Merkel's party just made a center-right FDP politician the prime minister of Thuringia.

It's only a matter of time until Germany will have formal governments featuring right-wing extremists.

What makes this all the more galling is that the AfD is even more extreme in Thuringia than it is in other parts of Germany.

Björn Höcke, who cast one of the votes for the new Prime Minister, has said that we need a 180-degree turn in our memory of World War II...
Merkel publicly opposed this move and the national party is urging its local politicians to withdraw their support for the new Prime Minister.

For now, Merkel might just prevail. But it is now clear, as Germans like to say, in what direction the train is headed.

Bernie Sanders now has a good chance of winning the nomination.

But it's also becoming clear what many of his supporters will do if he loses: spread conspiracy theories and call the process "rigged."

If Sanders cares about beating Trump, he must immediately stop this madness.
Credit where it's due: Bhaskar Sunkara pushes back against claims that Iowa was rigged.

So, dear Bernie supporters, if you don't want to listen to me saying how irresponsible it is to claim that the caucus was rigged, hear it from @sunraysunray instead.

@sunraysunray Complaining about the chaos in Iowa is perfectly legitimate.

Refusing to state clearly that there is no reason to doubt the accuracy of the count is not. And that's as true for the Biden as for the Sanders campaign.

Please, everyone: just knock it off.

1: The key here is the reaction of the people.

Most Iraqis don't like the Iranians and the Iranian influence. The anti govt protests there were against a govt controlled by the Iranians and against the Iranians themselves. The PMUs were the ones using snipers to shoot protesters
2: With regards to #Iran, this is a big event that can't go without retaliation. The situation can easily lead to a full scale war. Everybody in the region is now preparing for the eventuality of war.

If conflict starts, It'll be a regional war including Israel, Hezboallah, etc
3: Let's not even talk about the price of oil if conflict starts. This is the oil hub of the world & doesn't matter is a country is self sufficient in oil or not. Oil follows an international price. So if the fireworks go in big scale, oil will skyrocket & the economy 👎
