There's always two sides to a story.
Okay, sure, "vaccines cause autism" is some crazy talk, and anybody who believes that is a f***ing moron.
It's just that there's more to the story.
What's being done with anti-vaxxers is that instead of trying to empathize with them, trying to understand their point of view, we are instead strawmanning them, cheerypicking the craziest part of their argument, and saying "that's them".
At the same time, we are violating our own principles, form the principle of free-speech/anti-censorship, to the principles of science. Vaccines are neither 100% safe nor 100% effective, but we pretend they are, then attack anybody who challenges our scientific "facts".
Yes, they are "overwhelmingly" safe and "overwhelmingly" effective. Most vaccines are have such obvious benefit that it's insane not to take them.
I'm on a waiting list for this latest shingles vaccine. It's got complications so you should plan on a couple days off from work when you get it. On the other hand, the benefits are so huge you need to get it.
Anti-vaccines are idiots who are unable to understand basic science. So instead, they look at the system. They see a corrupt system, where authorities exaggerate some things, and violate the principles they supposedly stand for.
The solution is to cite science as never being 100% sure about anything, and not censor people who disagree -- even crazy nutjobs. Otherwise, we become a corrupt system that may be right about vaccines, but will likely be wrong about a whole bunch of other things.
The average person believes in a bunch of crazy non-science stuff, like chiropractics, natural medicine, organic food, homeopathy, and on and on. If you think being "anti-science" is some unforgivable sin, then start being "pro-science" yourself.
Censorship doesn't tell anti-vaxxers they are wrong. It tells anti-vaxxers they are right. If they were wrong, then censorship wouldn't be necessary. Lies don't need censorship, only truths.
