So Trump Hotel is trending. I thought I'd write up my experiences staying there.

/n On a last minute trip to DC, everything was expensive. I stayed at Trump Hotel because it was no more expensive than a lot of poorer hotels (e.g. Washington Hilton)
/n The hotel was largely empty of guests, astonishingly so. I saw only two other guests at the check-in and nobody else in the hallways. I did some stair climbing from the ground floor to the top several times for some evening exercise.
/n Conversely, the bar and restaurant were packed every night. The indoor atrium in the middle is a beautiful location, and the food/drinks excellent.
/n You can lookup images on the net. It's a great place to hang out.
/ The few guests I saw were foreigners. One was what looked like a stereotypical oil shiek and family, with expensive flowing robes and head dress. Another guest spoke French.
/ As for guests at the bar, one small group had a guy that gave off a strong bodyguard vibe, that "aging ex-military" look who didn't really participate in the conversation the two other guys were having.
/ As for the rooms, they have fantastically high ceilings. But other than that, it's this faux luxury of gold leaf everywhere that's really annoying.
/ When you put gold leaf on wooden furniture, it always gets nicks and scratches and places where it wears off. It's always a bit, well, shabby. It's for people who like the appearance of luxury rather than substance.
/ I've also stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in DC. It's a good hotel that has the actual substance of luxury, rather than merely the appearance.
