This thread is an example of how difficult it will be for any new leader to dislodge the antisemitic culture from Labour. Denialism and hostility to Jewish organisations has taken root
The number of people and organisations (such as JVL) who are implacably opposed to mainstream Jewish orgs such as the board of deputies shows how big a task there is.
Any new leader must focus not just on procedure (that’s the ‘easy’ bit) but culture and leadership. Hard decisions will need to happen quickly such as fully disassociating from orgs like Labour Rep Committee and Jewish Voice for Labour which perpetrate the denial narrative
What many people don’t realise but the thread above illuminates is that antisemitic behaviour has become normalised at the local CLP level. Not all but many. That isn’t straightforward to dislodge.
Changing culture is hard and it takes years. It requires leadership by example (taking hard choices, not being afraid to offend, personal risks), education and procedural change. Big job!
I wrote this almost 2 years ago about what Jeremy Corbyn could (then) have done to start to fix things. Would work for the new leader too. The travelling and listening part is really important - see @SadiqKhan and how he has approached the Jewish community
