Back in my day, I just got a telegram and $25 check from George Halas telling me to report to the Decatur Staleys training camp after alfalfa season
Unfortunately, my NFL career was cut short in the first day of training camp when I blew out my knee after stepping in a gopher hole

Halas made me give him back the $25
I was quite a gridiron specimen in those days, and was also scouted by other NFL teams like the Muncie Flyers and Rock Island Independents. At 5' 5" and 182 pounds, the newspapers called me "Man Mountain Burge"

When a Texan says "go back to California" or a Floridian says "go back to New York" it's because of backwards thinking xenophobia; when a New Yorker says "go back to Iowa" it's because they're bravely defending their community against the ravages of gentrification
is Brooklyn-being-taken-over-by-invading-Iowans even a thing? I know, in total, 4 people from Iowa in NYC, and that's 4 more than 99.5% of other Iowans

3/9 If I buy a regular petrol/diesel car, it may get obsolete sooner than I imagined. Eg: NCR banned 10yr old #diesel vehicles to improve air quality, push towards electric. All this affects resale value of the #cars. Hence, I considered pushing the life of my current car

After spending four long years overseeing a civil war that witnessed over 500,000 dead, the war was finally over. Lincoln was looking forward to a night of relaxation at the theater.

Ford's theater had only opened two years earlier in 1863. One of the well known actors who appeared in Shakespearean plays: John Wilkes Booth, future assassin of our President.

I’m covering opening arguments of the first federal trial over claims that Monsanto’s Roundup causes cancer this morning. The line to get into the courtroom was hella long.
Judge Chhabria is in the courtroom and asked attorneys if there are any issues he needs to address before bringing in the jury. Both sides are asking the judge to reconsider some pre-trial rulings, mostly re what's admissible during the 1st causation phase of this 2-phase trial.
Judge Chhabria isn't budging on any of his pre-trial rulings. He's calling in the jury in a few minutes.
