Breaking just now... McConnell is circulating the organizing resolution for the trial...
From the text: "... the House of Representatives shall make its presentation in support of the articles of impeachment for a period of time not to exceed 24 hours, over up to 2 session days."
"Upon the conclusion of the President’s presentation, Senators may question the parties for a period of time not to exceed 16 hours."
Key line on witnesses: "If the Senate agrees to allow... witnesses shall first be deposed and the Senate shall decide after deposition which witnesses shall testify, pursuant to the impeachment rules."

Instead, it’s being reported by @abc and @thehill she will introduce a much “milder” resolution tomorrow to “censure”
A resolution to censure, is a formal process that the House of Representatives can invoke INSTEAD OF #impeachment.

Such a resolution would essentially be a written “reprimand” but falls well short of impeachment and removal.

It is a rational position to take for a Democrat.
One could think of it as a “write up” or similar job performance evaluation but it is not punitive.

It also would not alienate the 63 million Americans that voted for President Trump and could be seen as a “healing” or “unifying” gesture; like an “off-ramp” for Dems
