I'm up early to talk impeachment politics w the Canadians on @cbcradio affiliates. The release of McConnell's late yesterday underscore what I've told you along: there will not be a trial on the merits in the Senate bc there CAN NOT be one- makes it more uncomfortable to acquit.
And not only is McConnell not going to let the new evidence & witnesses in, he's made it so the record from the House is not being brought in. Instead, each individual element of the House record will be considered w an up or down vote that Ds will lose. This is designed to allow
the Senate Rs cover when they vote to acquit a very guilty man & assist in an Administration-wide cover-up that bleeds into the country's Justice Dept under AG Barr. At least on the official Senate record. At least, that's the plan as of right now.
