On March 19, 1986 first recorded suicide of farmer Sahebrao Karpe took place. Since then in last 34 years, in the tenure of various governments about 3400000 farmers committed suicide in India.

I was curious to know what happened in Gujarat. Found out the following in a news item in 2017:
"Gujarat, the ‘model’ state, is 9th among Indian states in in the number of farmer suicides taking place over 3 years. In this period, 1,483 farmers killed themselves in Gujarat

Data with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) indicates 582 farmers committed suicide in 2013. The year 2014 was worse with 600 deaths. In 2015, the situation apparently improved with 301 farmer suicides in Gujarat. But the state was still ranked 9th among states in farmer suicides.

It came to light during the hearing of petition filed in the SC by an Ahmedabad-based farmer rightist Bharatsingh Jhala. CJI JS Kehar said that government should have schemes to prevent farmer suicides instead of compensating bereaved families after farmers had killed themselves

All these were citizens of India, not any foreign country.
So when Honorable PM Modiji was Chief minister of Gujarath the suicides took place and they continued after he became CM also.

The honorable Chief Justice also commented that preventive measures should be taken.
We all do not know what measures were taken..
One of the first majors to be adopted is abolition of anti-farmer laws:
Land ceiling Act
Essential Commodities act
Land acquisition act.

1000 of farmers keep one day fast on #March19. We all participated by keeping fast for last two years. We appeal that all who sympathies with suicides of farmers and feel that their kin have ended their lives should participate in the fast
