The Senate is now voting on the McConnell motion to table the second Schumer amendment to the impeachment rules resolution (subpoena for State Dept documents)
Once again, it's a party line vote of 53-47 to table (kill) the Schumer amendment. Next amendment is on a subpoena for the White House budget office.
Jay Sekulow ends his argument on the third amendment by suddenly dropping a reference to the Ukraine whistleblower.
The Senate is now voting to table (kill) the third amendment from Democrats. This one would subpoena documents on Ukraine from OMB.
And for a third time, we have a 53-47 party line vote. Schumer submits an amendment to subpoena acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney
The House sent a subpoena to Mulvaney in 2019, but he refused to testify. The Senate has now recessed for a dinner break.
Sen Ted Cruz R-TX tells reporters that it has 'not been a good day for the House managers'
Sen Amy Klobuchar D-MN on GOP Senators: "I don't know how they can deny all witnesses"
The Senate is back from its dinner break. Now on amendment four, a subpoena for Mick Mulvaney. This is expected to suffer the same 53-47 defeat as the others.
Rep Hakeem Jeffries D-NY channels Warner Wolf with Trump sound bites: "Let's go to the videotape"
White House Counsel Pat Cipollone seemingly not pleased with the course of today's debate on the trial rules.

"Seriously. Can we please start?"
Amendment five from Democrats to the rules package will be a subpoena for DOD documents related to Ukraine. That should also be defeated on a party line vote.
The Senate has voted 53-47 to defeat a Democratic amendment to subpoena acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney for impeachment testimony.
McConnell tries to get Schumer to enter into a time agreement for more votes. Schumer: "We will not back off."

And now we have an impeachment trial quorum call, while Senators try to figure out what's next.
There were changes made by the GOP to the original impeachment rules proposal. As you can see, they were hand written changes
During a regular quorum call, the Senator in the chair could have someone else take his/her spot for a quick break. But in an impeachment trial, only the Chief Justice can preside. He is standing and stretching his legs, but he can't leave the chamber.
There is no time agreement. So the Senate moves on to the fifth Democratic amendment to subpoena Pentagon documents related to Ukraine. Unclear how late this will go.
At this rate, the Chief Justice is going to earn his Golden Gavel pretty fast.
The Senate has defeated the fifth Democratic rules amendment on a party line 53-47 vote.
Amendment 6 is a subpoena for Ukraine testimony by Robert Blair, an aide to Mick Mulvaney, and OMB official Michael Duffey.
The White House continues to give back a large amount of time in these arguments. I wonder if the length of this rules debate came as a surprise to them.
The Chief Justice has a lot of papers on his desk. Wonder how he is keeping himself occupied during the debate.
During votes is just about the only time we get to see Senators during this impeachment trial unfortunately. The Senate cameras stay on the dais and the arguments.
The Senate tables the sixth Democratic amendment by the familiar 53-47 vote. Schumer offers a new amendment. "It's short," he says.
Nothing says the Senate like a five minute recess at 11:20 pm.
Amendment 7 from Schumer is a bit different than the others. This says if the President's team tries to introduce evidence which was part of a House subpoena - but was never answered - then all of the responsive documents from that subpoena must be turned over
The clock ticks past midnight, and the Senate votes down the latest Schumer amendment 53-47.
The next Schumer amendment would subpoena former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton for impeachment testimony
Rep Jerry Nadler D-NY takes direct aim at the President's legal team to open the Bolton subpoena debate.

"They will not permit the American people to hear from the witnesses. And they lie. And lie and lie and lie."
White House legal team unloads on Nadler. Cipollone: "The only one who should be embarrassed, Mr. Nadler, is you."
Chief Justice Roberts admonishes both sides for their language and personal characterizations, his first such rebuke of the House managers and the President's legal team.
"I do think those addressing the Senate should remember where they are," the Chief Justice added.
The Senate is closing in on being finished with the impeachment rules debate.
This is the final amendment to the rules resolution.
The last vote was 52-48. Sen Susan Collins R-ME was the first vote switch today.
