A lot of people are now saying to Soft Brexit supporters like ourselves that it was "obvious" brexit would turn out this way. And that we have been used by a immoral clique of disaster capitalists who want a Hard Brexit. Here is our response:
/ remember the Government's Brexit leaflets and website? We do.
/ the HM Government Brexit leaflet praised the merits of the Single Market. Logically then, if the UK voted to leave the EU, it stands to reason that the UK would seek to remain in the single market via the European Economic Area.
/ the government also warned against a 'limited trade deal'. Logically this points to Government wanting a *less* limited deal that includes services!
/ Why would the government even raise these points if they weren't going to advocate a Norway style deal in the event of a leave vote?
/ if David Cameron hadn't stepped down after Brexit, he would have pushed for the Norway Option. How do we know? thetimes.co.uk/article/david-…
/ that's right. The Government leaflet implied that in the event of a leave vote, the Government would seek the closest possible Brexit. The Prime Minister at the time of the referendum wanted a Norway deal should the UK vote to leave.
/ in a million parallel worlds, David Cameron stayed in office and steered the nation into a Norway style Brexit. Sadly we live in this one in which he resigned and was replaced by an easily-manipulated automaton.
/ As a former remainer, Mrs May felt she had to go for a Harder Brexit to convince her party to back her. If a known leaver became PM, it stands to reason that they could have made some concessions to the pro-eu wing of the party.
/ Nearly every pro-leave figure even Nigel Farage was endorsing the 🇮🇸🇳🇴🇨🇭🇱🇮 models before the referendum
/ so before you say it was "obvious" that Brexit was going to turn out this way...
/ the chain of events that lead to this was impossible to predict. For it to happen, the PM would have to resign, then the replacement would have to be useless, the opposition parties divided and useless, and on top of this, the Commons degenerate into utter dysfunctionality.
/ change just *ONE* factor and we would now be well on the way to a Norway type deal. 🇳🇴
/ so back off. A Norway style deal was by FAR the most likely outcome of Brexit, any way you look at it. Don't blame us that politicians failed in their duty. /End
