1/At some point the intel/homeland security world should stop using the phrase "sow discord" to describe Russia's influence operations in the US.

Russia's goal is to weaken the West and harm the United States. "Sowing discord" is one of their tactics, not an end in itself.

Remember that on perhaps every question on Impeachment and guilt there were clear majorities on other side of Trump/GOP.
2/Lamar Alexander's statement last night was a vindication of the House's Impeachment effort. He essentially said the House did its job but the Senate just isn't going to Impeach this President in an election year.
3/My prediction is there will be no backlash against the House/Dems for Impeachment. They acted honorably, and were driven by patriotism. The President is guilty, and his party is a corrupt embarrassment. Majorities w/the Dems on most issues, incl removal.

1/Our esteemed Chief Justice is presiding over a "trial" where the defendant has been the arbiter of what witnesses and evidence would be allowed.

It's an almost unimaginable corruption of the law, and if not remedied will do historic damage to him/the Supreme Court itself.
2/Gravity of the moment cannot be overstated.

Trump/Senate/Roberts on verge of overseeing most corrupt judicial proceeding in our history, one which could make our President a King. Potential for damage to the republic and our democratic institutions truly alarming.
3/Why we must stay in this fight, today, tomorrow and for the next few years. The Rubicon is now in sight, and we simply cannot let Trump and his dangerous brand of royalists cross it in the days ahead.

Thread: @arimelber asked me last night whether #TrumpShutDown was at all related to the pressure brought to bear by the #MuellerProbe. Let’s consider this more closely. It’s a distraction & attempt to show strength at a time that #Trump has been weakened.
First, #MuellerProbe will continue full steam ahead. It is funded and not impacted by #TrumpShutDown. The shutdown isn’t wise or good for anyone. So a shutdown only serves to help Trump if it makes him look strong and like a “winner” to his base. Wrong-headed But Trumpian logic.
Things to remember as we wake up to a partial #GovernmentShutdown: You will still get Medicare, Medicaid, SSI services. Dept of State, DOJ, DOT r among the agencies that will have to shut some activities. Homeland security won’t stop border enforcement, courts will operate.
