I'm suspicious of arguments that it's a fool's errand to fight for universal programs bc racists don't want POCs to benefit.

Good thing is: if your coalition isn't dependent on racists, it doesn't matter.
More common than bigots voting against their interests is evidence that universal programs are broadly popular & have more staying power than others.

Approval for the ACA is growing. And look at KY's new Dem Gov. who ran and won on expanding Medicaid. theweek.com/articles/69424…
@BreeNewsome is right: The trick here is expanding your base to groups that typically don't vote. That includes many POCs who are locked out of the process due to disenfranchisement, as well as poor & working class folks of all races who stand to benefit the most from M4All etc.
We should be suspicious of those who hold up examples of racism not as something to overcome, but as a reason to stop fighting for programs that working class people, poor people, and especially Black and Brown people desperately need.
