📚 Stuck naming a product?

Here is a 3-step exercise @eatmywords teaches in her book.

Step 1: List 12 words related to it
Step 2: Choose 1 & research for 60m
Step 3: Repeat on each word

Result: 100 names and 10+ you like

1️⃣ Run the word through a Thesaurus

Find synonyms and related words

(Write down any names or ideas)
2️⃣ Image search the word

Use google image search, Instagram, Gettyimages.com and istockphoto.com.

What surprising things comes up?

What other industries?

What words come to mind looking at the results?

3️⃣ Look up industry related glossaries

Search for: <keyword> lingo / slang / terms / jargon / dictionaries

Ex: “snowboard slang” could rerun phrases like “Shreddin the nar”

4️⃣ Run the word through a dictionary

Look for phrases, synonyms or idioms that standout.

Idiomconnection.com

5️⃣ Search for cliches related to the word

These common phrases are some of the best sources for names.

Clichesite.com is a good source.

6️⃣ Google the word

Some search criteria:

1. [keyword]
2.[keyword] + places / people / feeling / products / podcast
3. Look at auto suggest
4. Look at related searches

7️⃣ Look up movie titles with your keyword

[keyword] + movie

Brows IMDB. Look at other movies the actors were in.

8️⃣ Look up book titles with your keyword

Go to amazon and search the word. Look at most popular books with the word in it.

Book titles can’t by trademarked.

9️⃣ Search iTunes for song titles with your keyword

Look for songs with the word.
Look for phrases within the song.

These can be very sticky.

🔥 By the end of this you should have 100+ names. 10-15 should be ones you really like.
