Swiss bank UBS facing obstruction charges for enabling a financial firm to commit fraud against it's clients in conflict of interest deals.

Malta based Sofia Sgr asset management firm conducted the fraud from 2013-2017.
In addition to charges against the firm & the bank, they are looking at charging up to 23 individuals working for the firm & the bank. #ButNothingsHappening

My liberal friend made me realize that people who only believe in conspiracy theories might not know WHY UBS is so important. It is because SoS Clinton blocked the IRS & DOJ from investigating tax fraud at UBS. Then opened their checkbook to the Clintons.
UBS has been rolling from one guilty plea & cooperation agreement to the next. $5B in France for enabling tax evasion, several cases in the US, cases in the UK & other nations.
UBS utilized Mossack Fonseco to set up shell companies exposed through the #PanamaPapers.
Another bank plead guilty in August 2019 to helping UBS customers flee with their US taxable dollars starting in 2008. They were cooperating with the FBI from 2012-2019...

Well if you want to sell airplanes you have got to beat the competition, which in Airbus' case means Boeing. You can't bust Airbus without taking down Boeing too!
This $3.9B settlement is the largest foreign bribery case ever resolved (though I bet Boeing's will be larger!

Is this connected to Operation Cassandra?
It is certainly a #ButNothingsHappening case, $115M illegally laundered to Iran from Venezuela from 2011-2013, but not investigated until the Trump Admin.
Lied to FBI agents about the scheme which started in 2006 in January 2020!
This is a superseding indictment, which likely means an earlier indictment happened under seal. Now this one as an edited version to hide other connections & cases connected to this defendant. ht @ProudBigDaddy2
One of the reasons this may be Project Cassandra related is that they are having the SDNY's Terrorism & International Narcotics Unit leading this investigation.

Case stems from time when he was Spain's ambassador to Venezuela.

The case also involves the former head of the Venezuelan oil company flying to Madrid to testify, then being found dead in his hotel room.
Money was laundered through shell companies & banks in Panama & Switzerland. I'm sure some of this was exposed by the #PanamaPapers & #Swissleaks.
Which have made it easier for investigators to discover the owners of the shell companies!

(THREAD) In response to my 100 questions Congress should ask Mueller—see my pinned tweet—I got a note from a Congressional representative asking me to discuss the OLC memo re: indicting a POTUS. What follows is a summary of my reply. I hope you'll RETWEET this to spread the word.
1/ The now-infamous Watergate-era OLC (DOJ) memo was bolstered in 2000 when it was repeated, cited and effectively adopted by another OLC memo in that year. The upshot: it says you can't indict a sitting president because doing so might distract him/her from a president's duties.
2/ The problem is that SCOTUS has ruled you *can* distract (as it were) a president for many types of legal proceedings. Nixon was ordered to produce physical evidence; Clinton lost unanimously when he tried to avoid having to give testimonial evidence himself. But there's more.

2/ A 2014 investigation into the size of the financial lobby in Brussels
found that banks, investment funds and other financial companies had at least 1700 professional lobbyists at their disposal. This means financial lobbyists outnumber MEPs by around 2.5 times!
3/ And the lobbying is growing, fast. A sample of seven financial industry associations and companies, estimated in 2014 to have a combined 88 lobbyists, in 2018 have 115 people involved, according to Transparency Register data on LobbyFacts.
