Munich airport apparently. I don't think the sign is right under the Withdrawal Agreement, but an early reminder that as well as all the future negotiations government will have to deal with immediate issues - of which I'm expecting many.
- Future relationship with FTAs
- New FTAs with US, NZ, Aus etc
- WTO schedules
- Northern Ireland protocol implementation
- Rollover trade deals (Japan)
- Domestic policy changes (agriculture, immigration etc)
- Immediate market access issues
- Build customs facilities

After yesterday's flurry of UK-EU trade talks documentation today the reflection - that the UK government has committed to a massive increase in trade barriers with Europe, which will scarcely be offset anywhere else. Demonstrating the truth of this statement... 1/
Of course that's an extract from Boris Johnson's speech yesterday in which he lauded the virtues of free trade, then committed to take action to restrict it. Because no alignment, if taken literally, is going to mean either no trade agreement, or a very thin tariff only one. 2/
Favoured Number 10 courtiers have been making the argument that the EU is protectionist, and out of step with the rest of the world in their approach to reguatory alignment. Both complex subjects, but broadly (though with exceptions) the argument doesn't hold up at all 3/

We have a draft Commission negotiating mandate and a Johnson speech at the same time. Hard to keep up - but interesting from Johnson that the UK's approach to food being included in US trade deal remains ambiguous.
Essentially - we can have a US trade deal if we accept US food and an EU trade deal if we accept EU level playing field conditions. The two may yet clash in a couple of areas.
Important point. The predominant view globally is that the UK is part of the move towards protectionism (leaving the EU, restrictive on movement of people), and the UK overall is likely to be more closed to trade after Brexit than before.

There may be no need in theory but there is in practice, because that's the price of preferential access to a huge market (though far less preferential than today)
There's also no need to be making such a big deal of this if actually we agree with the EU on the need for high levels of e.g social protection

Negotiating bluster or hard red lines? Trouble is nobody knows, probably including the UK government.

First thoughts, as I read through it...
2/ Note that this is a *proposal* for a negotiation mandate. The mandate is decided on by the Council, ie Member States' ministers. Under the proposal they would have to act unanimously (I will explain why in a moment).
3/ The Commission will then negotiate, in accordance with the Treaties. But note *it will have a mandate from Member States when doing so*. Barnier will not be on a frolic of his own. (This point was often missed during the withdrawal agreement negotiations)

Some gathered thoughts, after discussions in Luxembourg, on the UK Government's repeated claim that it can and will deliver the agreements required to establish the future EU-UK relationship, within 11 months & without any extension as provided for under the withdrawal agreement:
1) As we all know, this directly flies in the face of all EU and international precedent and experience, which suggest at least several more years of complex and difficult negotiations before anything that could be described as a serious / comprehensive agreement might be reached
2) It also ignores possibility of ECJ being asked to check compatibility of proposed UK agreements with EU constitutional law (to protect Member State competences and autonomy of Union law) - which could add another 12 months to whole process; even more if changes are required

Apparently, they really do think we're dumb.
Right here is the kicker.

"You are always able to see tweets from the accounts you follow."

First, note that they also say, well, except sometimes you have to go their timeline. Yeah, OOOkay. You can see anyone's tweets if you go to their timeline, unless they're private.
Second, this isn't just about being able to see tweets of people I follow. I want to follow other people and I want to see what other people, that I don't follow, are saying. I want to be able to search & find what I'm looking for, but an't because Twitter hides tweets in search.
