2. nightmare feedbacks have been underestimated

3. WMO now implies that 1.5C by 2029 is likely

4. more climate deniers/delayers in office than ever - all plan to zoom over 2C

Things aren't as bad as we thought.

They're worse.
We can't rule out vast human misery and the extinction catastrophe of heading over 5C by the 2090s.

(nobody can know which species could survive 5C+)

Michael Mann feels 2.5C is achievable. I don't really see it myself, but with immediate action & luck..?

New climate models show increased (calamitous) sensitivity.

Wildfires, permafrost thaw, Arctic ice, etc show that feedbacks are already upon us.

Fossil fuel production plans for the 2020s take us rapidly to 2C.

Please don't try to tell me 3C by 2100 is likely.

greenhouse gas emissions are now so out of control that if we don't stop them in the next 500 weeks the Earth's climate will turn back into what it was 3 million years ago and most species won't be able to cope with such a sudden change, apart from that I'm fine how are you?
If we continue our current level of greenhouse gas emissions, the climate in 2030 will resemble the 2°C - 4°C mid-Pliocene.

By ignoring socio-economic realities facing the people that the tech is supposed to benefit, GM Golden Rice could make things much, much worse for them.

Good lessons for #climate movement on the need to assess hi-tech “solutions" from all angles.

The German government unveiled a major policy package to combat #climate change. The subsequent discussion in the German media shows the huge political and economic cost of a simple-minded focus on #carbon pricing – it’s the 1980s all over again! A Thread @BMF_Bund @JWMason1
The policy package contains a mix of mainly sensible measures: A slowly increasing carbon price, public investment (public trains), subsidies for switching to green technology, transfers to compensate “losers”, and a plan to move out of coal energy.
What happened in the subsequent media discussion is very interesting. As expected, there was critique of certain transfers and subsidies that some groups did not like (“waste of money”). Also, the opposition parties were critical – no surprise here.

#ClimateChange denial type 1: LIE.
Increasingly popular in US and UK politics, simply say something that is blatantly untrue, e.g. "The Arctic is cooling", "Greenland isn't melting", "No evidence CO2 causes warming," "Brexit will be good for Britain", etc ... 2/.
#ClimateChange denial type 2: Half-truth.
Show someone half the facts and conceal the other half, and lead them to an incorrect conclusion. e.g. "Many IPCC scientists say warming estimates are over-estimated" (ignoring that at least equal number would say the opposite). 3/.

 Dear Media, to avoid committing media malpractice, if you invite someone on your show to talk about #climate & they say:
"The climate has always changed."

You must immediately say "No, we understand all observed warming is now human caused, overwhelming any natural changes."

You must immediately say:
You're confusing "weather" and "climate." The world as a whole is warming. One cold day in one place doesn't disprove global climate science.

 If they say "The scientists are only in it for the money" you have two choices:

Say either "Scientists get paid far less than fossil fuel lobbyists & climate deniers, & whatever they're paid has no effect on the validity of the science."
Or call me for a "Fuck you" response.
