Johnny Depp and Syria, while complete opposites of the 'shit I should care about' spectrum, share a common trend that we should all be looking at as a wider conversation: Endo-idealism.
Endo-idealism involves sorting all of the info available according to the laws of endoreality: All virtue, ownership, credit & victimhood are assigned to the endo-ideal and all vice, guilt & punishment are assigned to the negative image, by all committed members of the endogroup. 
A desire for the defence or abuse (cancel culture, war crimes denial) of rival endo-ideals trumps any desire to understand facts. The facts are available but inaccessible to those who blindly obey the laws of endoreality.
Those (like @jk_rowling for Johnny Depp or Bana Alabed) who stand against the laws of endoreality are also shunned so the world can continue to refuse to believe that #AmberHeardIsAnAbuser or that Assad is a genocidaire without the annoyance of dissent.
@jk_rowling Endoreality is completely oblivious to facts in universal reality: like the fact that Johnny Depp was never accused of domestic violence and Amber Heard was arrested for it twice, or the fact that Assad helped the CIA torture people under Bush.

@jk_rowling Regarding the abuse itself: Every person feels guilt at actions which harm others and that guilt can be and is deflected - onto the victim, who is then punished again for the action against them, creating a cycle of abuse.
@jk_rowling Guilt deflection is evident in the depiction of the babies and other innocents murdered by Assad as 'terrorists' and it is evident in every part of Amber Heard's gaslighting and abuse of Johnny Depp - for her past abuse of him.

@jk_rowling While the negative image bears all punishment for the endogroup self, the pain experienced by the negative image is not primarily physical abuse and deprivation. The primary pain is the result of the twin tortures of shunning and shame.
