🔎Steven Bergwijn's debut vs Man City - a short analysis thread
First, some video analysis:
As we told you in our previous analysis thread, Bergwijn's immense shot power makes him a threat from distance. And this was exemplified by his goal today, which was generated by such a short back-lift
•Bergwijn isn't a traditional winger in the sense that he will often position himself in central areas, especially on the counter-attack as he looks to try to link the counter from winning the ball back in midfield & the striker (s)
•This was demonstrated by his touchmap, where Bergwijn actually had more touches in central areas in between the lines than Dele Alli who was the designated attacking midfielder
•Even with his goal, he took up a central position and this trait will help decrease the goal burden without the injured Kane
•This ability to drift into central areas comes from positional versatility- given he's also played as an attacking midfielder & striker this season

•We also saw him pop up on the right wing & put in a cross which almost fell for Son- he also played as a right winger for PSV
•Defensively,Bergwijn made 5 ball recoveries – more than any other attacker on the pitch
-Tricky defensive task as KDB & Walker constantly rotated who would overlap Mahrez
-Mahrez & Walker created 0 big chances and made 2 key passes,so he & Tanganga did well to control the left
Future implications

•Given A) Bergwijn had more presence in between the lines than Dele & B) Ndombele's impact at progressing the ball from deep with GLC (as a sub for Dele) Mourinho may consider switching to a 4-3-3-, with Winks, GLC & Ndombele behind a 3 of Bergwijn,Moura+Son
•vs other sides, Bergwijn will have an even greater impact:
1. Will see much more of the ball, considering Spurs had just 32% possession- 32 touches vs City compared to 59 per game in the Eredevisie
2.Tanganga (or Sessegnon/Davies) will be allowed much more freedom to supply him
There will be a main analysis thread on the whole Spurs vs Man City game to come tomorrow

This is the starter to the main course 😃
