Today was another reminder that the United States needs LESS not MORE religion in politics.

e.g: Just the idea of a National Prayer Breakfast.

I am Egyptian-American.

I want less religion in politics in #Egypt, where I am from the majority religion.

I want less religion in politics in the United States, where I belong to a minority religion.

I don’t want any candidate to jump through any faith loops.

e.g. I don’t want any candidate from any religion to vow to care for the disadvantaged and marginalized because whatever they pray to told them it’s the right thing.

I want them to vow to care for the disadvantaged and marginalized because it’s the right thing.

e.g. I don’t want to argue for my right to have sex with whomever I want - women, men, gender diverse people - with a candidate who has to make sure that right is ok with whatever they pray to.

I could go on and one of these days I’ll stretch this out into my Christian Brotherhood of the USA threads. But for now: i want religion as far from politics and policies as possible.

I’ve said so much about white Evangelicals and the GOP in ghe US. But it’s not just Republicans.

I still get whiplash seeing how Democratic candidates have to be seen going to church, quoting the Bible, etc.

Remember this: “I don’t want anyone like *that* in the White House.”

I am not a Buttigieg supporter BUT stop telling homophobes “I respect your position, I do.”

I FUCKING DON’T!
