Imagine it's Feb 2024, and Senator Booker goes on TV to brag about how President Biden is having his private attorney, Hillary Clinton, look into potential GOP Presidential nominee Donald Trump Jr's corruption in India, and funneling what she finds directly to AG Kamala Harris.
Within hours the GOP would call for the immediate expulsion of Booker, the impeachment of Biden, the locking up of Hillary, and the removal of Harris.
The icing on this cake of Lindsey horribleness is that he drops in a line about how "the Russians are up to it again," in the midst of spouting Russian-derived disinformation that will possibly soon be amplified by "information" dug up by the Russians who recently hacked Burisma.
This is a perfect case of asymmetrical partisanship. Republican politicians are willing to do this sort of shady stuff because they know their voters are either so cynical or misinformed that they think this is just totally fine and normal. Happens all the time.
Democratic politicians are restrained from doing this by a) a sense of ethics and morality and b) an understanding that if they were called out on such behavior by the press their voters would believe those press reports & would punish them at the ballot box for such corruption.
Who knows if this would make a difference, but I really wish journalists would get in the habit of having parallel hypotheticals like the one above ready to go whenever people like Lindsey spout this crap. Of course they'd dodge it...but at least viewers would hear it.
