If there's a VC looking to "disrupt" an industry, may I suggest the natural stone market (the kind you use for, say, kitchen counters). It's the biggest buy-a-pig-in-a-poke ever. Allow me to rant.
First, you go to a warehouse and you look for a stone you like. BUT. It's wholesale only and they don't give out their prices to you.
So you walk around choosing stones you like and you have to kind of watch the eyebrows of the salesperson to gauge whether or not you've picked something insanely expensive. I am amazing at picking out the most expensive stone in the place. Downright professional. Ask my husband.
Then the price list of the ones you picked gets sent to a fabricator. I'm working with a seemingly honest one who forwards me their prices, with a note saying "wow, you have good taste" and he doesn't really mean it as a compliment.
Other fabricators mark up the prices on the stone slabs (because, hey, you have no idea what they cost) AND charge for their work.
An "uber for..." stone slabs would tell you the prices of the slabs and calculate fabrication based on your measurements. Maybe you can even look at the stones online! It could be delivered to your home and installed! You're welcome for my million/billion dollar idea.
