WHO has released new clinical guidelines for healthcare providers supporting 🤰 or 🤱 women in the context of Ebola virus disease.

@WHOAFRO @OMSRDCONGO WHO recommends that women with #Ebola immediately stop 🤱 & are prioritised for diagnostic testing. Any 👶👼 exposed to Ebola through breast milk should be placed into safe care, closely monitored for symptoms over a 21-day period & fed with an appropriate breast milk substitute.
@WHOAFRO @OMSRDCONGO Women living in an #Ebola outbreak should have access to reproductive healthcare options, regardless of their economic, cultural, racial or religious status.
This includes respectful care for all 🤰 or 🤱 women that considers the risks they face & supports the choices they make.

A series of attacks disrupted #Ebola response activities in #DRC this week. Most operations have resumed, but unfortunately we expect that the disruptions and backlog in lab testing will result in a rise in the number of cases reported in the coming days.
When we cannot reach people, they do not get the chance to be vaccinated or to receive treatments if they fall ill. The tragedy is that we have the technical means to stop #Ebola, but until all parties halt attacks on the response, it will be very difficult to end this outbreak.
I am profoundly worried. The increased transmission rates raise the risk of #Ebola spreading in #DRC and to surrounding countries. A major surge in political & financial support from all national & international actors is urgently needed to help stop this outbreak.

+13 new #Ebola cases today & +6 deaths bring the outbreak totals to 1353 cases & 880 deaths. As I've said since the violence last weekend, these figures could well be low. The outbreak response is operating at reduced levels, because of ongoing security concerns.
2. The violence & the slowdown in containment activities couldn't come at a worse time. This #Ebola outbreak has grown markedly through March & April, but efforts to get the community on board with the effort had been gaining ground. That's been erased.
3. Health Minister @OlyIlunga traveled to Butembo today to meet with the response workers & community leaders. Hopefully this helps. It should be noted that in the past 3 days fewer than 400 doses of #Ebola vaccine (total) have been used. Not nearly enough given the cases.

#Ebola thread: Sorry this is so late; another disease demanded my attention. And the news here is so routinely awful I barely know where to start. This outbreak is really, really not going well.
Here's what I see:
2. @MinSanteRDC reports +14 cases today. This reporting week is 2 days old & there have already been 22 #Ebola cases. They also report 10 deaths, 7 of them community deaths. The people who looked after those dying patients will be cases themselves in the next week or 2. Fact.
3. So the outbreak totals are now 1168 cases & 741 deaths. After the West African outbreak (admitted still far, far bigger) I naively thought the world would never let an #Ebola outbreak get big again.
I was wrong.

#Healthcare is a fundamental human right. In 2018, our legislature helped to ensure that right by expanding Medicaid. As of today, nearly 250K Virginians have enrolled in the program and now have access to quality healthcare.
This is what happens when we elect Democrats who are tenacious and unwilling to accept the status quo. But we still have work to do. We still have an opioid epidemic that is devastating communities and major improvements that need to be made to our mental health care system.
Last week, I was happy to visit one of our local facilities and have a great discussion with physicians and staff about these issues; we even tackled the benefits of community health.

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
