This was a bit of a throwaway comment; but the more I think about it, the more right it seems to be. Let's say you were the PM and wanted to increase your power and ability to act without external constraints. What would you do? 1/
First and foremost, you would leave the EU (and at the same time 'deliver the will of the people'). You would ensure that the future relationship left you with maximum flexibility. 2/
You would seek to constrain the power of Parliament. A big majority in the HoC certainly helps to minimize any potential scrutiny. You would avoid select committees. You would vest more power in Ministers. You would limit the powers of devolved assemblies. 3/
What else? You would, perhaps, attack the judiciary, seeking to constrain its power and have more influence over its composition. 4/
You would threaten the BBC, and seek to limit negative coverage in the press. You would avoid tough interviews. You would find ways to speak directly to the nation. 5/
Where next? There are too many to choose... the Treasury, the Bank of England, the civil service, universities (and I'm sure many more).
