/ THREAD: Body Language Analysis No. 4026-T: Bill Barr's interview regarding changes in Roger Stone's Sentencing Recommendations (VIDEO, PHOTOS) • #BodyLanguageExpert #BodyLanguage #BillBarr #DonaldTrump #RogerStone #Nonverbal #EmotionalIntelligence
/ On 13 February 2020, Bill Barr gave an interview with Pierre Thomas of ABC News. What follows is a partial nonverbal and statement analysis of that exchange.
/ Beginning at 0:45, Mr. Thomas says, "Did you talk to the President at all about th- your decision regarding your recommendations?"

Barr answers, "Never."
/ Just as he says, "Never", (0:50) Barr looks down to his left (away from his Mr. Thomas)
/ Immediately afterward, Barr blinks extremely rapidly(0:50.5)
/ And he projects his mandible forward in Jaw Jut display. This is indicative of an adrenaline surge (0:51.5)
/ As Mr. Thomas continues, "Anybody from the White House call you to try and influence you?", Mr. Barr again blinks rapidly as he looks down to his left (0:52) with both his head and eyes.
/ Barr answers, "No" [pausing] "Nope" [pausing] I, I, I have not, I ha-, I've not discussed the Roger Stone case at the White House."
/ Just before and immediately after Barr says, "Nope" he displays a classic suppressed smile (0:55). Why is Barr smiling while discussing this gravely serious subject and in this specific moment? Such behavior is profoundly out-of-context.
/ Whenever a smile is displayed out of context, there's always significance. Very often, it's a form of what is known as "Duping Delight".
/ Duping Delight is a term used to describe the joy-happiness being experienced whenever a person *believes* that they are being successful in perpetrating a lie or accomplishing malfeasance.
/ Bill Barr displayed multiple examples of smiling out of context/duping delight throughout this ABC interview.
/ Note Barr said, "I've not discussed the Roger Stone case at the White House." He could have, of course, discussed it elsewhere. He could have spoken by phone, video chat, or communicated via email, etc.
/ He also never mentioned a person — Trump or a surrogate, simply, "at the White House".
/ This is a dramatic statement analysis tell. Sadly, some journalists seem to ignore (likely) or are naive to such signals (highly doubtful). Others may be nervous, intimidated — or instructed to not be assertive (hopefully not).
/ Just after Barr said, "Once the tweet occurred" (1:37), note that his eyebrows are pulled together and lowered — displaying anger.
/ It's important to, again, point out Barr's choice of words. He didn't say, "When the President tweeted" — but rather, "Once the tweet occurred" — as if it were a spontaneous event arising from the ether.
/ Moreover, Barr then distances himself from responsibility by substituting pronouns ("you" rather than "I") when he poses the question, "Do you go forward with what you think is the right decision or do you pull back because of the tweet?"
/ During 1:48, as he says, "these tweets" ("And that just sorta illustrates how disruptive these tweets can be"), notice he rises in his chair about one-half inch. Although we all see this dynamic often, few people know its physiology.
/ This chair squirming/extending the torso vertically display is a classic fear-anxiety response occurring simultaneously with both:

• Tightening of anal sphincter tone, as well as a
• Cremasteric-type Fear response (testicle[s] pulling closer to the body).
/ Intriguingly, the opposite phenomenon is the origin of the (male-biased) courage idiom, "Hang your balls out there" — for if a man is fearless, his testicles do not seek protection by retracting close to the body.
/ Barr is in fear of how well he's acting/lying in this moment. While, in a public forum, he is trying to appear as if he's not taking direct orders from Trump — he must also be careful not to push back too much, thus making his boss look beta and foolish.
/ With that in mind, it's interesting that immediately afterward, an instant before the camera switches away from Barr (1:49), the Attorney General displays a regret expression.
/ ABC News edited a bit differently with several segments of this event. For the remainder of this analysis, please refer to the following video of this same interview:
/ Beginning at 1:55, Mr. Thomas says, "The President — ahum — does not like to be told what to do. He may not like what you're saying. Are you prepared for those ramifications?"
/ Barr then responds, "A, a, a, ah [stuttering], w-, of course, as, ya know, I said during my confirmation, ah, I came in to, serve as attorney general. Ah, I am responsible for everything that happens in the department..."
/ As he is saying, "as, ya know, I said during" (2:07 - 2:08) he displays another example of duping delight. This historic and serious matter is absolutely not the setting for a smile display. Again, suppressed smiles or smiling out of context is always a red flag.
/ As he says, "I am responsible for everything that happens in the department...", it's notable that Barr looks down — first down to his right (2:14),...
/ then center-down, and then down to his left (2:16).
/ Barr continues "...But the thing I have the most responsibility for are the issues that are brought to me — for decision. And I will make those decisions based on what I think is the right thing to do..."
/ As he says this, he displays another example of smiling out of context (2:20). Simultaneously, he also gestures both of his hands toward his chest just before he says, "the issues that are brought to me —"
/ Note that his hands don't touch his chest. The lack of contact with his chest in this context is highly suspicious for deception — *feigning* a posture of responsibility for which Barr is claiming.
/ He continues and then amplifies his smiling out of context as he says, "for decision" (2:22). He also continues his non-chest touching claimed responsibility gesture.
/ As he says, "And I will" ("And I will make those decisions based on what I think is the right thing to do..."), Barr closes his eyes (blocking/lack of eye contact) as he displays a hand-chop (2:24).
/ Hand-chops and finger-point-hand-chops gestures (illustrators) when displayed in the context of defending against accusations (as Barr is doing here) are strong signals of guilt of those very same accusations.
/ Barr then goes into another long episode of smiling out of context as he says, "...I'm not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody, and I said from [sic] whether it's Congress, Newspaper ..." (2:31 - 2:35)
/ At the end of this segment Barr says (continuing at 2:40), "...ahhh, a, you know, ah, [stuttering] ah, ah, thee, I think thee, thee, I cannot do my job here at the department, ah, with a constant background commentary that undercuts me."
/ Intriguingly, as he says the word, "constant", Barr displays contempt (2:49).
/ Just after this clip of Barr is completed and just before this interview ends (and after Barr says, "that undercuts me" at 2:53), Barr displays an Inward Lip Roll (ILR).
/ An inward lip roll is an indication that the psyche is trying to suppress strong emotions from growing as well as their corresponding emotional displays.
/ Barr's stuttering is prominent during this interview. Stuttering is a non-specific anxiety indicator.
/ Notice too, Barr's multiple pronunciations of "thee" (long e) rather than "the" (short e). This is a common paralanguage tell of stalling — and is suspicious for deception (particularly when appearing with the other above noted signals).
/ SUMMARY: Bill Barr's nonverbal, verbal, and paralanguage behavior in the above videos, indicate, with a very high degree of probability, that he is lying when he states directly or indirectly ...

continued ...
/ ...that his overruling of the Federal Prosecutor Team's recommendations for Roger Stone's sentencing was not done under the direction of Donald Trump.

continued...
/ While Barr *is* indeed frustrated by Trump's tweets and these tweets do make it more difficult for Barr to carry out Trump's wishes, this interview of Barr's was a performance. It's a play within a play.

continued...
/ Moreover, and not surprisingly, while Barr has contempt for Trump — Barr also fears Trump.
