@sjwrenlewis @jocanib I wouldn't be shocked, but I've never evidence economic circumstances influences social values.

/1
@sjwrenlewis @jocanib In contrast, there's a lot of evidence that social values have a causative impact on

* economic circumstances - if you're a social liberal you're more likely to move to where the high paying jobs are

/2
@sjwrenlewis @jocanib * economic values - authoritarianism mediates the correlation between economic circumstances and economic values

@sjwrenlewis @jocanib Re: Austerity and Authoritarianism, I think it's easier to make the case that Authoritarianism caused Austerity than Austerity Authoritarianism - it's Authoritarian voters who were/are most convinced that spending needs to be cut - most particularly welfare spending.

/4
@sjwrenlewis @jocanib The connection between fear (and disgust - there's a mountain of papers on disgust reflexes and auth) and Authoritarianism isn't that having "objective reason to feel fear" "turns you Authoritarian".

/5
@sjwrenlewis @jocanib It's that Authoritarians appear to view the world through paranoia tinted lenses - all things are guilty until proven directly beneficial - all attitudes are dependent on their personal status (right up to things like gay marriage).

/6
@sjwrenlewis @jocanib The net result is not 'rational economic risk aversion' - it's like the way conspiracy theorists become insanely credulous by way of trusting nothing.

/7
@sjwrenlewis @jocanib (Education "liberalises" - ditto, evidence for subsequent socialisation effects)
