The "spat" between Bill Barr and Donald Trump has nothing to do with Trump destroying the rule of law, it's just about him being so blatant about it.

Barr belongs to the traditional Republican Party that has been doing this for decades, but with a smile and a tie and jacket.
What we're watching now isn't particularly new, it's just more brazen and reckless. The Republican Party has troubled the rule of law and institutional norms for years and years and years.

Barr belongs to that and knows the cloak of "professionalism" is a potent weapon.
By presenting themselves as traditional guards of the status quo, the Republican Party has enjoyed the support of media and pundits who dare never call out dangerous behavior because they always bow to institutional control.

Barr wants to maintain that fealty, at all costs.
The institutional rot has been festering for decades. What we see now is the uncovering of it, the boiling over of an infection that has been denied and ignored and has thus grown and grown and grown.
