Just going to underline one last time how wild it is to experience a "debate" where one half is "it is illogical to associate Bernie Sanders with abusive anger" and the other half is "you don't like Sanders and thus should have been murdered in infancy."
Like, *of course* people are going to associate Sanders with abuse when their primary experience of his candidacy is receiving verbal abuse. It's very bizarre to try to reasonably prove the connection exists while the proof of the connection is actively playing itself out.
It's totally possible to run on a progressive platform without doing this. It's not like sending that 100th Tweet telling a stranger to kill herself gets you Medicare for All. The insistence that anyone who opposes A doesn't want B just seems like deflection.
I'll be honest, this one rattled me. I wasn't the only little kid involved. My brother was younger than me. The last thing that bothered me this much was the people going after my kid. It's really nuts when people get so into this they start going in on babies.
I know that admitting that, or engaging with it at all, will make it worse. But straight-up, my brother doesn't really use Twitter. My toddler doesn't know how. They did nothing to you. The idea that they're also being punished or mocked, just because some people dislike me...
This has been going on in my life for years. I'm kind of used to the way it's changed me. I've gone to multiple therapists in multiple cities who diagnosed me with trauma, not from my childhood, but from the wave of harassment in '16. I get that it's not going to stop & I manage.
I find it really, really hard to believe, though, that any of this will make the world better, when so many people are willing to make so many specific lives so much worse. Not even on purpose, but because it's the done thing. Yeah, I think it's reasonable to worry about yelling.
I know the accusation now is "weaponizing" (talking about) "trauma" (being a survivor) but I'd ask you to take a breath and remember that a real family got very hurt, and nearly died, and I was only one of those people, and I didn't have Twitter yet. Try to keep some perspective.
