Four years ago while covering the 2016 election, I wrote this piece about how Bernie Sanders praised Fidel Castro. My story is from the POV of a reporter who covered the AIDS crisis. Castro quarantined PWAs.

Then as now--at a March 2016 debate in Miami--Bernie praised Castro. But Castro was responsible for many AIDS deaths, just like Reagan. 
Bernie has never acknowledged what Castro did to people with AIDS or to gay people.
Bernie surrogate Michael Moore praised Cuba and Castro in his documentary "Sick." He lauded the low cost of drugs while ignoring the low standard of living. Moore also ignored what Castro did to PWAs throughout the AIDS crisis.
Revisionist history benefits no one. Vetting candidates is essential. My piece is no less accurate now than it was in 2016. (I also held Hillary accountable for lauding Nancy Reagan at her death.) For gay people and PWAs, Castro was a monster. Whether Bernie thinks so or not.
