There is one key difference between Bernie and The Murcan Voter which may indeed spell doom for him in November.
Bernie believes (rightly) that people should pay higher taxes to improve the society.
The Murcan Voter wants a better life for himself and a middle finger to all.

The problem is, of course, that nobody can separate themselves from the society. Or from the recipients of the middle finger. Eventually it will come back at you, in the form of crime, disease, recession.

But Americans, raised on the fairy tale of rugged individualism and other nonsensical bootstrappery, staunchly believe in their ability to achieve success regardless of how the rest of society is doing.
