That "moderates" think Biden is the best bet against Trump to the extent of actually endorsing him is still somewhat remarkable to me, but if he does get the nomination at least we'll be able to test our theories of the case and perhaps even learn from it
In other words, if Biden gets the nomination and loses to Trump, which I think is likely, presumably centrists will realize they fundamentally misunderstood the country's mood...again (who am I kidding, of course they won't, but at least the rest of us will)
Also, the notion that centrists like Biden are less polarizing than supposed "radicals" like Bernie itself betrays an ideological bias and a rather different set of starting assumptions about politics
The notion that "moderates" and "centrists" are more likely to engage to reflection and self-criticism seems utterly unsupported by the evidence. In my experience, it's tended to be the opposite. And, in this sense, centrists can be extremely ideological
And the notion that centrists are "post-ideological" represents one of the biggest misunderstandings of how both centrism and ideology work. Only centrists think that centrists are post-ideological
In this sense, the most ideological people are often the ones who tend to think they're the least ideological
