Here's a wild idea that might make a lot of sense! 💡

Why doesn't our negotiating team at the EU ask for the maximum 2-year transition period extension immediately...

...then say "we'll circle back in 6 months or so on Brexit, but let's lick the coronavirus together first"?
After all, we're talking about a unique "black swan" event that has the potential to hit us worse than the 2008 financial crisis.

Surely only the most extreme radical Brexiters could object to pressing "pause" under such impossible circumstances? Most people would understand.
(This isn't a secret backdoor attempt to thwart Brexit. Unless you've been living under a rock the last few weeks, you'll have noticed we've *already left* the EU. Article 50 no longer applies. There's no way to "remain" no matter how desperately some might wish to.)
And from the Tory Party perspective, they have a majority good through 2024. Even if the transition period lasts until 2022, that's oodles of time before the next general election has to happen.
